SUMMER IN THE CITY: FESTIVAL FASHION

The sun is shining bright in the city and we all know what that means— festivals, ice cream, and lots of cute summer looks. Whether you enjoyed the Pemberton music festival or local concerts this summer, festival season is all about looking fashionable and trendy in the fields. Your festival looks are sort of like wearing a survival kit, but a stylish one for sure. You’ve got to dress not only to own the day in your hottest looks, but also to survive the heat. Yes, that means lose the flannels tied around your waist and the booties worn on your feet. This season is all about scandals, floral, hats, BOHO looks and most importantly— comfort. If you’re a last minute shopper and have a hard time putting together outfits, then this article will definitely inspire you on what to wear to your next summer event!

FLORAL SHIRT & GREEN SHORTS

Floral patterns are always an excellent option for summer— it’s a given to rock some floral this season. You can never go wrong with a floral top, like the one Nick is wearing in this picture.

Notice that Nick’s top doesn’t consist of TOO much floral; it’s just the right amount of print on this t-shirt. Too much floral print can be distracting and tacky looking, especially when it’s a top full of bright yellow daisies. (Stay away from those tops, instant blinding!) Nick has paired his green shorts with the look and a black hat to add a festival vibe to this outfit. All these items can be found at stores near you. You can also add fun bracelets with this look or even rock a pair of Vans® shoes.

PUNK LOOK, PINK SHIRT & BLACK SHORTS

What better way to stand out in the crowd then to dress with a bit of an edge? Flower crowns are seen on almost every single person at a festival, but hats are the better option to accessorize your outfit with, and it will protect you from the heat! Sure flower crowns are cute, but wouldn’t you rather go with big hats?

Perhaps this festival season should be about whose got the better hat, rather than who’s got the most flowers on their head! Kaitlyn’s second look has more of a punk feel to it with her stylish sunglasses. This look is simple and easily styled.

All Pink!

Nick is rocking an all pink look— the perfect summer colour. Light colours are always a good choice when in the heat, especially if you are at a festival. For guys, it gets difficult trying to choose looks to wear for festivals, that’s why basics are always the best last minute go-to option.

Going with one colour for your outfit will make you stand out more in the green field, rather than wearing the typical white beater look. I think it’s time for guys to stay away from beaters during festivals and dress it up with delicate floral tops, basic tees and fun colours.

BABY BLUE LOOK

One of this season’s hottest trends is off the shoulder tops. This style has been seen on many popular Instagram bloggers from around the world.

This trend is definitely here to stay for the summer and the best part is, you can find this look for a reasonable price from stores such as Forever 21, H&M and Garage. The off the shoulder tops are simple to style and can be paired with many bottoms— including shorts, maxi skirts and denim. This look is kept casual with minimal accessories. There is no need to layer on necklaces with these tops because you don’t want to take away from the “off the shoulder” look.

White top, Blue Shorts & a White Hat

Crop tops and denims— now those are essentials for festivals and concerts. When choosing crop tops, remember to purchase tops in fabrics that are breathable for the warm weather. Also, never go with denim jeans, only shorts, because once you’re in that heat, you will be tempted to cut up your denim jeans into shorts.

Kaitlyn is wearing shorts that she made from thrifty men’s Levi’s® Jeans. DIY (do it yourself) shorts are always an excellent choice and it allows you to create the perfect fitted look for your body type. Lace is a trend that is always seen at summer festivals and will never go out of style for the warm season.
