International Youth Day (designated by the United Nations) is celebrated worldwide by creating awareness about youth problems. This is an opportunity for the government to address these common issues.
Members of the government attend events such as concerts, workshops, and meetings that take place all around the world - making youth issues really matter. International Youth Day also recognizes the involvement that young youth have in preventing conflict, supporting inclusion, social justice and sustaining peace.
This year, the theme for International Youth Day is “Transforming education.” This will take a deeper look at making education more relevant, reasonable and accessible for all youth. The goal is to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.”
To recognized how education is transforming and how certain efforts are being contributed to the success for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, International Youth Day 2019 will focus on the support provided by the Government, youth-focused organizations, youth-led groups and the young enthusiastic people wanting to see advancement in the education system.
While change is certainly on the rise, we must remember the that there is still a great deal of transformation required to make education more inclusive and accessible. For more information or how to help, visit the United Nations – Department of Economic and Social Affairs website.
