Putting Our Hands Together

So here we are again – Approaching the end of another year. Christmas is just around the corner! The lights are shining bright and although there may not be snow yet, the crisp cool air definitely leaves our noses feeling kissed. People are carrying that warm fuzzy feeling in their hearts once again. It’s a time for giving, sharing and caring. It’s a time to be with the ones we love and to celebrate all the good things that have happened to us this year; and it's also time to learn from all the unfortunate situations that we have overseen.

The holidays always have a way of making room for forgiveness in our hearts, while allowing us to reflect back on things that might have not gone as planned. The holidays also have a way of making us feel grateful for all the small things that we do have and that others are in much need of such as a warm blanket, water or even a plate of food.

During the holidays, we tend to pay more attention to those in need, those who are suffering, and to those who require our love and support. So, while we are all taking the time to support these necessary situations, let’s help out as much as we can. For example, we can support a charity, support families in need, reach our hands out to people who need lifting, provide warmth with shelter, food and water, volunteer our time, and donate much needed items such as blankets, jackets, sweaters, socks and mittens. We can focus our attention to making this world a better place to live in.

Although I’m writing this blog during the holidays, I’d like to shine light on the fact that people are in need of our help every single day and not just during the holidays. If we all did a little, it would become a lot. Therefore, below I’ve listed a bunch of charities and organizations that need our help in making a difference in other people’s lives.

Because the Riverview Hospital downsized in 1970, many people living with mental illnesses were left homeless with no support.
